Daily Limits & Gate Hours

Yoshida Trail Daily Cap

The Yoshida Trail limits climbers to 4,000 per day:

  • 3,000 slots for advance online reservations
  • 1,000 slots for same-day registration (first-come, first-served)

Gate Hours

Trailhead gates are closed from 2:00 PM to 3:00 AM. This means:

  • You must start climbing before 2 PM, or wait until 3 AM
  • Climbers without mountain hut reservations cannot enter during closed hours
  • This prevents dangerous "bullet climbs" (climbing through the night without rest)

Gear Inspection

Rangers at trailheads can inspect your equipment and refuse entry to climbers who lack:

  • Proper hiking boots (no sneakers, sandals, or fashion shoes)
  • Rain gear (waterproof jacket and pants)
  • Adequate water and food
  • Warm clothing layers
  • Headlamp (for overnight/early morning climbers)

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I climb Mt Fuji without paying the fee?

No. The ¥4,000 fee is mandatory for all climbers on all four official trails. You must register and pay online before your climb. Attempting to bypass the fee or climb without registration is not permitted.

When does registration open for the 2026 season?

Registration typically opens in May or June for the July-September climbing season. Check the official Mt Fuji Climbing website for exact dates. Set a reminder and register early for popular dates.

What if the weather is bad on my registered date?

If the trail is officially closed due to weather, refunds or date changes are typically available. If the trail is open but weather is poor, it's your decision whether to climb. Check conditions carefully and don't take risks.

Do I need to pay if I'm only going to the 5th Station?

No. The entrance fee applies only to climbers ascending beyond the 5th Station. Visiting the 5th Station for sightseeing, restaurants, and shops is free (though parking fees may apply during peak season).
